Amongst other activities, the MINUIT collective has been actively producing and refining video works under that name since 2008, be it under the form of independent DVD releases or in collaboration with other like-minded entities, constantly focusing on the primal intricacies of night-time skateboarding and its oh-so-specific feel (and aesthetics on film), to which no less than a cult is now vowed by what has become our tribe.

Minuit / “MEANWHILE” DVD (2012)

A Film by: Yoan Taillandier

Year: 2012

Length: 11 minutes

Country:  France

Soundtrack: Matias Elichabehere, Nicolas Oules

Featuring:

Masaki Ui, Charles Badi, Sebastien Daurel, Kevin Lowry, Leo Valls, Kicks, Matias Elichabehere, Patrick Houngtry, and friends !

Editor’s Note:

“Meanwhile” is a spontaneously-conceived, shorter Minuit project, whose intent is to try to emphasize the correlation, in the word “Audio-Visual”, between the ”Audio” (hereby tastefully tailored by Matias Elichabehere and Nicolas Oules) and the ”Visual” (as skillfully captured and shaped up by Yoan Taillandier).

Shot mostly between Bordeaux and Paris, Meanwhile features full sections of Bordeaux locals Masaki Ui, Seb Daurel and Leo Valls, as well as footage of local and visiting friends.

Editor’s Note:

“(…) The project – which has been carefully worked on for years – all revolves around the fascination resulting from the simple, but sadly oh-so-underrated act of skateboarding at night time. If you are a real, passionate skateboarder, then you won’t be without understanding what the myth is all about – (…) sessions just happen to have this different feel to them when they take place after dusk, when shop-keepers have gone back home, when the subway is closed and the last bus of the day is long gone, when the average joe is done watching his favorite TV show and struggling to find sleep, wallowed the mediocrity of passivity. No more crowds, no more commuters, no more living sounds – just bare, deserted streets, waiting to be taken over, screaming your name.

Yoan has been working hard for a while to accurately recreate this feeling in an entire video, and it seems that he eventually succeeded. The project is 100% independent, even the instrumental soundtrack is homemade and was entirely created for the project by various artists. As a result, the final product stands out as a conceptual piece of art, a visual essay on a particular aspect of a passion shared by many people around the world, conveying feelings that break the language barrier any day and, in this particular occurence, any night. Magenta / “SOLEIL LEVANT” DVD (2012)

[a collaborative filming and editing effort]

A film by: Magenta skateboards

Year: 2013

Lenght: 31 minutes

Country: France / Japan

Year: 2012

Editor’s Note :

Magenta’s 2012 full-length video feature aims at putting an emphasis on the “Worldwide Connections” movement, hereby underlining their relationship with the Japanese skateboarding scene. The film features heaps of new footage of the entire Magenta team’s latest performances across the globe, but also two Takahiro Morita sections, and a lot of guest appearances and friends / locals sections.

Magenta / “SF HILL STREET BLUES vol.1″ (2011)

A Film by: Yoan Taillandier

Year: 2011

Length: 15 minutes

Country: France / USA

Additional Filming: Ryan Garshell

Featuring:

Jimmy Lannon, Leo Valls, Ben Gore, Carlos Young, Evan Kinori, John Lindsay and more friends !

Editor’s Note :

Shot in two months in Spring 2011 for Magenta Skateboards, this edit aimed at bringing back the vibe around the then long-forgotten art of SF hill skating, as dating back to the likes of Tommy Guerrero and perpetuated throughout history as illustrated in videos such as Forties’ “Amigos” or, more contemporarily, the Rasa Libre videos.

It is also worth mentioning that the video ends on a pitch black note under the disguise of a full night section, filmed in downtown SF, in typical MINUIT fashion.

Magenta / ”SF HILL STREET BLUES vol.2″ (2012)

A Film by: Yoan Taillandier

Year: 2012

Length: 17 minutes

Country: France / USA

Artwork: Soy Panday

Additional Filming: Zach Chamberlin

Photography: Isaac Randozzi, Ben Gore, Yoan Taillandier

Featuring:

Jimmy Lannon, Leo Valls, Ben Gore, Carlos Young, Evan Kinori, Zach Chamberlin, John Lindsay and more friends !

Editor’s Note:

The sequel to the first “Hill Street Blues” video, shot the following year (2012). This last installment of the series keeps the tradition going and expands on the original idea, involving more guest artists (Soy Panday, Isaac Randozzi, Ben Gore…) and skaters into the process of its making, as inspired by (amongst others) the early Adrenalin and Stereo videos.

This opus also furthers the incorporation of the 1990′s-inspired, MINUIT signature editing style into VX1000 footage of skillful SF hill bombing, making for a smooth visual ride through plenty of multicolored landscapes !

Magenta X MINUIT ”Remix” (2011)

A Film by: Yoan Taillandier

Year: 2011

Length: 4 minutes

Country: France / Japan / USA

Additional Filming: Jean Feil, Ryan Garshell

Featuring:

Leo Valls, Soy Panday, Vivien Feil, Jimmy Lannon…

Editor’s Note:

A four-minute-and-twenty-second-long re-edit of some of the crowd’s favorite clips of the Magenta Skateboards riders, as originally seen in the first MINUIT DVD, “A Night Tribe Called Minuit” (aka. MINUIT-DVD-001, which can be streamed online in full here).

Departing from the full-length format of the original, 51-minute-long piece (which also happened to feature more contemplative segments, “locals / friends sections”, and experimental film-making), this short re-edit is faster-paced, 100% pure skateboarding-oriented, and displays the Magenta protagonists’ skateboarding in its raw form.

Also includes a few “new” clips that were filmed after the completion of the original film and included in later web edits periodically released by Magenta, Under the nickname “capsules”, some of which can be streamed here.
